Gulliver & the Lilliputians
I went to the department store next door to where we live today to buy a coffee maker. I made many, many new friends. None of the sales clerks spoke English.
The first little Chinese girl that walked up to help me nearly fainted from fear when I started speaking English. She went to get three of her friends to help. The three friends also did not speak English.
I was smiling and very relaxed in my manner. They could not understand a word I said, nor I them. They went to get even more friends to help. The new friends also could not speak English.
Finally a young clerk came up who spoke a little English. She was answering my questions about the coffee grinders and the coffee makers fairly well. By this time there were at least a dozen Chinese girls standing around watching and listening. They were all chattering in Chinese.
Then a young lady who was a supervisor came up. She spoke very good English. She was very helpful to answer my questions and help me to evaluate my purchase. All the Chinese girls were still watching, listening, talking, laughing….and one of them was taking many pictures with her cell phone. It had to be a sight. I am 6’3″ and 270. I am truly Gulliver and the Lilliputians.
In the end, I got the grinder for half price, 10% discount on the extra carafe, and 3% discount on the coffee maker because it was their display. I told the girls I would bring my beautiful wife to meet them. I told them we would teach them some English. They laughed in delight.
The supervisor was surprised to learn that I live in the building next door to the department store. She said her boyfriend is coming from Germany next week. They would like to meet my wife, and to drink coffee!
All in all, it was a good afternoon. They clearly like Americans. They clearly liked me. We made some new friends. I told them my Chinese wife is very pretty. They congratulated me. They told me I was brave to come to country where I do not understand the language.
我去隔壁的百货公司，我们住的地方今天买了咖啡壶。我做了很多很多的新朋友。销售人员都没有讲英语。
第一个中国小女孩走过来帮我差点晕倒免于恐惧，当我开始讲英语。她去得到她的三个朋友，以帮助。三个朋友也不会说英语。
我微笑着，在我的方式很轻松。他们无法理解我说的一个词，也不是我他们。他们去得到更多的朋友来帮助。新朋友，也不能说英语。
最后一个年轻的店员上前讲一点英语。她回答我的问题有关的咖啡研磨机和相当不错的咖啡壶。到了这个时候，有至少有十几个中国女孩，站在周围观看和聆听。他们都在中国热热闹闹。
接着上来一位年轻的女士，监事。她讲很好的英语。回答我的问题，并帮助我评估我购买的，她是非常有益的。所有的中国女孩，还在看，听，讲，笑….其中之一是许多与她的手机图片。它必须是一见倾心。我6’3“270，我真正的格列佛的小人国。
最后，我得到了一半的价格，10％的额外水瓶折扣，和3％的折扣上的咖啡壶的磨床，因为它是它们的显示。我告诉女孩，以满足他们，我会带给我美丽的妻子。我告诉他们，我们会教他们一些英语。他们高兴地笑了在。
主管惊讶地得知，我住在建设隔壁的百货公司。她说她的男朋友是来自德国下周。他们希望，以满足我的妻子，喝咖啡！
总而言之，这是一个很好的下午。他们清楚地喜欢美国人。他们显然很喜欢我。我们做了一些新朋友。我告诉他们我的中国妻子也很漂亮。他们表示祝贺。他们告诉我，我勇敢地来到国家的地方我不明白的语言。
